Our new campaign to raise awareness against digital gender violence.
The patriarchal system within which we are immersed and forced to extricate ourselves daily is also reflected in the virtual world, where borders and limits are much more blurred.
Digital environments, like all of them, are not gender neutral and reproduce the same dynamics of power that we know all too well as women.
According to a recent survey, online gender-based violence affects one in three women worldwide, with numbers reaching 9 million women and girls in Europe.
As occurs in offline life, gender-based violence that passes through social media can have many characteristics, ranging from the dissemination of private data / photos / videos without the consent of the person concerned, to surveillance and monitoring of personal accounts, to comments and messages. harassing private individuals. The consequences on an emotional and relational level change from person to person, but they can represent for the woman who suffers these abuses, especially if they are a teenager, a serious violation of privacy, a source of stress and anxiety up to a real limitation of freedom. personal and expressive, with the consequence of withdrawing from the online world in order not to be bothered.
In the particular period we are going through, in which, taken by boredom and distancing, we spend more time at home in front of our social message boards, receiving yet another unsolicited message (it broke our dick) feeds the frustration and heaviness that already exists. familiar in this 2020 ...
So we thought: why not make an exhibition of it?
Send us the messages or comments you have recently received and which you would have largely done without and we will publish them thinking also of creative answers, which will not be worth sending to the sender but which we hope will be a source of reflection and empowerment.
We try to be mindful of the privacy of every person (even that * bitch *) so make sure you delete the name and all references before sending us the message.
As soon as the Dpcm will free us and we can return to gather as we like, we will organize a small exhibition with all the unsolicited messages and we will have a collective drink in their honor!
